Britain's food watchdog has rejected a call by scientists to declare organic milk healthier than non-organic varieties.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said it would not advise consumers to switch to organic milk for health reasons despite some evidence of higher levels of important omega-3 fatty acids.

Last month 14 scientists wrote to the FSA citing a study of UK farms which found higher levels of omega-3s in organic milk.

The FSA said some types of omega-3 had been shown to protect against cardiovascular disease, but organic milk appeared to contain the wrong type.
